Animals are machines by Descartes

Animals are like machines. Think of them like a clock. All of the organs function like wheels in a clock.
Animals have no resoning skills. They lack the skills to arrange speech. Deaf people can even show signs to communicate with others. Very little is required, and animals fall short. Even the stupidest or most insane person can communicate. They can not communicate what they are thinking. When they do, it is simply cause and effect. We teach them to perform. They also mimic what we do, for a response. They do not use thought befroe they act, unlike humans. They act out of instinct.
If we want to think that animals have thoughts, this would have to be true of all animals. Many are too imperfect to do this for example sponges or oysters.
